When the iPad was coming out we had a comparison with Netbooks and it was clear that anyone looking to buy a NETbook (in the real sense) would love to make use of the tablet structure. That was exactly where the iPad struck, around a month back we heard Asustek confess that tablets are hitting netbook sales and we have some more on it from Best Buy now. Being a popular retailer Best Buy certainly understands the market dynamics and CEO Brian Dunn has spoken that iPad is eating up as much as 50% of netbook sales.
It seems that Apple calling nebook ‘piece of junk’ has proven true with iPad eating a BIG share of the market and competition falling over their heads now to launch a tablet. The iOS makes a big difference to the tablet space, but the revolution has only begin. 2011 might shape the market with much more clarity with much more innovation happening. While I don’t see the need for a traditional computer system / notebook dieing, the portable / mobile space is getting geekier. There are many things that a tablet does (gaming, ereading, internet), but does it really fill a gap? Does it need to?
